EU: Malt sales inside EU markets
Malt sales inside EU markets at best stagnate, analysts commented. Beer sales in Western Europe were down by 3 % since the record year of 1994 until 2003. As the beer output grew by 6 million in the new member countries from 2001 to 2003, one can assume that total beer sales in the EU-25 have hardly changed during the past decade. There were regional changes, Poland and Spain the winners, Germanys output was down. First reports of this calendar year are negative: Germany sold 3,5 % less beer in Jan/March and Inbev just reported lower sales in Western Europe - 6,9 % and in Southeastern Europe - 5 % for the same period.
